Cinnamon Toothpicks

So, I was shopping for ingredients from WildHerb on Etsy to make more deodorant (Yes, I make my own deodorant. I haven’t quite perfected it but when I do I’ll share my recipe.) and I came across some cinnamon leaf oil.

I love cinnamon! Homemade cinnamon candles would be awesome! In the cart it went.

When I received it the smell reminded me of a time when I was in junior high and we made cinnamon sticks! Good times!

My friends would bring cinnamon sticks to try and they were really hot! So hot that it was a competition to see who could keep it in their mouth the longest.

Ah, junior high. {I don’t miss it. Lol!}

Having 2 teens of my own, I decided to make some.

DIY Cinnamon ToothpicksPin

Long winded version:

You’ll need a jar. An 8oz mason jar would work nicely, however, I used a glass organic herb/seasoning jars, Wild Oats from Walmart and Simply Organic from Target. Both of these will work because they have an insert/lid with holes large enough for the toothpicks to slide right out of, which makes it very handy!!

Then all I do is drop some toothpicks into the jar and add the cinnamon oil, which comes with a long stem dropper.

I drop several drops on the toothpicks, let it slide down, shake it up a little bit and then add some more until they’re coated.

Don’t use too much or it will pool at the bottom.

Put the lid on it and let it sit overnight.

The next morning I rub the toothpicks between two paper towels to get the extra oil off.

Do not use your hands. If you get some on your hands, be sure to clean them right away, it will burn if you get it in your eye.

I immediately put one in my mouth, because they’re irresistible!

Remember, you can always add more oil, but you can’t take it away. Yes, it burns your lips :) That’s all part of the fun! Lol! If they’re not spicy enough for you, you can add more oil and let them sit again.

That’s it! It’s so simple and easy! And, quite honestly, it’s really handy having around with teenage boys in the house because they can come in and grab one of those instead of snacking on candy… so it saves money and calories too!

My daughter and I have started reaching for these instead of snacks too!
They’re very handy!

I’m not sure what the consensus is on ingesting Cinnamon Leaf vs Bark, but in the research that I’ve done, it’s contradictory and lacks sufficient data. However, I feel that it’s less harmful than most processed fast foods I ingest, and it’s a much smaller quantity, and it may even be beneficial. So, try this at your own risk/benefit. :)
