:) About the Pattern:

Time it took me to knit: 6-7 hours

Dimensions: 14 1/2″ {37cm} tall x 10” {25cm} wide

Weight: 4.1 oz {115g}

Gauge: 14 sts & 31 rows per 4” {10cm} square {knit flat, in garter stitch}


:) Materials Needed:

Approximately 200 yards of a Medium weight yarn, Category 4

I used Lion Brand Heartland in Black Canyon

Size 8 {5mm} straight needles

Size 9 {5.5mm} straight needles

Darning needle


Note:

Knit from the rim to top.

Pattern {knit flat, back and forth}:

Using size 8 {5mm} straight needles

CO 72 STS

Switch to size 9 {5.5mm} straight needles

Rows 1-36: *K2, P2*, approx 6 ½”

Rows 37-73: *K* in garter stitch, approx 5 ½”


Decrease:

*K4, K2TOG*

*K*

*K3, K2TOG*

*K*

*K2, K2TOG*

*K*

*K1, K2TOG*

*K*

*K2TOG*

*K2TOG* {approx. 6 STS remaining}


Finishing it up… you’re almost there!

Sew up sides and block.

It’s a little weird, but I use a saucer.

Like a teacup and saucer ;)

I put it inside the hat, so the bottom “swirl” is in the center of the saucer and the saucer is bulging outward.

I get a clean washcloth soaking wet and press it on the “swirl” until it’s fairly damp and let it dry overnight.

I find that I have to play with it for awhile before I’m happy with it, but once I’ve worn it for about a week, it’s shaped just as I like with very little effort.

Abbreviations:

* – * – repeat pattern

BO – bind-off in pattern

CO – cast-on {long-tail cast-on method}

K – knit stitches {K1 means to knit 1 stitch}

P – purl stitches {P2 means to purl 2 stitches}

STS – stitches
