FREE Slouchy Hat Knitting Pattern #bromefields

I was trying to decide what hat I’d like to make this month and I’ve been trying to branch out and use different yarns, so I decided to create a pattern similar to my most popular hat knitting pattern, the Wisdom Slouchy Hat which is knit with a super bulky yarn.
So, I decided to create this hat using a bulky yarn instead of a super bulky and I’m super happy with the results.
For starters, this yarn is the softest and warmest evah!
I’m all about instant gratification projects, hence why I always knit with super bulky yarn.
However… even though this took a little longer to knit, I absolutely love it!
So, I’m trying to embrace patience when knitting a project and enjoying the process and trying not to think about what I’m going to knit next ;)}
Anyone with me on this?!
Let’s get on to knitting this thing! :)

:) Materials Needed:

:) Pattern:

  • Using size 10.5 needles:
  • CO 64 STS, PM, join in the round
  • Rounds 1-21: *K2, P2* approx. 5”
  • Switch to size 11 needles:
  • Rounds 22-52: *K* approx. 7 ½”

:) Decrease:

  • Round 53: *K6, K2TOG* {I like to place a stitch marker after each K2TOG, so I don’t have to count my stitches hereafter, I just K2TOG before each stitch marker until I only have 8 STS remaining.}
  • Round 54: *K5, K2TOG*
  • Round 55: *K4, K2TOG* {I switched to a longer cable to knit in the magic-loop-method}
  • Round 56: *K3, K2TOG*
  • Round 57: *K2, K2TOG*
  • Round 58: *K1, K2TOG*
  • Round 59: *K2TOG*

:) End:

  • Do not bind-off. Leave a long tail, about 10″, and pull it through the remaining STS remove markers. Pull tight and push through the top hole to the inside and weave in the ends.

:) Block:

  • I blocked this hat. It’s a little weird, but I use a saucer. Like a teacup and saucer ;) I put it inside the hat, so the bottom “swirl” is in the center of the saucer and the saucer is bulging outward. I lightly wet it with a spray bottle and press a dry towel on the “swirl” to soak up any excess moisture and let it dry overnight. I find that I have to play with it for awhile before I’m happy with it, but once I’ve worn it a few times, it’s shaped just as I like with very little effort.

:) Note:

  • This uses a little more than 1 skein, so you can make it a few rows shorter to make it with 1 skein.

:) Gauge:

  • Gauge: 12 sts & 18 rnds per 4” {10cm} square {knit in the round, in all knit STS}
