Gauge: 10 STS & 18 rows per 4″ {10cm} square, knit in the pattern below

Notes:

Not reversible.
The CO edge is the height.
Knit using the basket cable knit stitch.
This cowl is knit flat, when you’re finished knitting you’ll sew the CO & BO edges together making it a cowl.

Pattern, Knit Flat {Back & Forth}:

CO 38 STS

Row 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 {WS}: *P*

Row 2, 4, 8, 10 {RS}: P3, *K* P3

Row 6 {RS}: P3 *C8B* P3

Row 12 {RS}: P3, K4 *C8F* K4, P3

Repeat rows 1-12, 6 more times, for a total of 7 repeats.

To end: repeat rows 1-10 and BO in all purl STS.

Weave in the ends.

Block, if desired.

 

Abbreviations:

* – * – repeat between *
BO – bind-off in pattern
C8B – cable8back {Transfer 4 stitches to a cable needle and hold it in the back of your work, knit the next 34 stitches and then knit the 4 stitches off the cable needle}
C8F – cable8front {Transfer 4 stitches to a cable needle and hold it in the front of your work, knit the next 4 stitches and then knit the 4 stitches off the cable needle}
CO – cast-on {long-tail cast-on method}
K – knit stitches {K1 means to knit 1 stitch}
P – purl stitches {P2 means to purl 2 stitches}
RS – right side
STS – stitches
WS – wrong side
