Pattern, Knit in the Round:

Using US 11 {8mm} circular needles with a 16” {40cm} cable.

CO 44 STS, PM, join in the round

Rounds 1-5: *K1, P1*

Round 06: Increase 20 STS: [INC1, K1, P1] x20] [K1, P1] x 2 {for a total of 64 STS}

Note:

On the first round, I placed a stitch marker between each repeat to keep track of the stitches. This helped keep me from making mistakes. :)

Round 07, 09, 11: *P2 {K1, P1, K1; K3}*

Round 08, 10, 12: *P2 {P1, K1, P1; K3}*

Round 13: *P2, C6FK3KPK*

Round 14, 16, 18, 20: *P2 {K3; P1, K1, P1}*

Round 15, 17, 19, 21: *P2 {K3; K1, P1, K1}*

Round 22: *P2, C6FPKPK3*

Round 23, 25, 27, 29: *P2 {K1, P1, K1; K3}*

Round 24, 26, 28, 30: *P2 {P1, K1, P1; K3}*

Round 31: *P2, C6FK3KPK*

Round 32, 34: *P2 {K3; P1, K1, P1}*

Round 33, 35: *P2 {K3; K1, P1, K1}*

Note {Optional}:

When the stitches get too tight switch to DPNs or a longer cable and knit using the magic loop method.

Decrease for the crown:

Round 36: *K6, K2TOG, PM* {-8 STS 64 STS remaining}

Round 37: *K5, K2TOG, SM* {-8 STS 56 STS remaining}

Round 38: *K4, K2TOG, SM* {-8 STS 48 STS remaining}

Round 39: *K3, K2TOG, SM* {-8 STS 40 STS remaining}

Round 40: *K2, K2TOG, SM* {-8 STS 32 STS remaining}

Round 41: *K1, K2TOG, SM* {-8 STS 24 STS remaining}

Round 42: *K2TOG, SM* {-8 STS 16 STS remaining}

Round 43: *K2TOG, remove stitch marker* {-8 STS 8 STS remaining}

End:

Without binding-off, cut the yarn leaving a 10” {25cm} tail, pull it through the remaining STS, push through the top hole to the inside and then weave in the ends.

Block:

To block this hat I use a saucer. Like a teacup and saucer. ;) I put it inside the hat, so the bottom “swirl” is in the center of the saucer and the saucer is bulging outward, spritz it with some water, pat dry with a clean towel and let it dry overnight.
