Herringbone Lattice Cable Knit Stitch Swatch

This herringbone stitch is for advanced beginner knitter. 
Even though this cable stitch requires your full attention, it isn't an easy stitch, it's absolutely worth the effort!
It's an 8-row repeat and all of the right side rows have cable stitches. 
This herringbone lattice stitch cable stitch consists of 2 cable stitches and a twist stitch creating a lovely fabric with the gorgeous texture of woven cable stitches.

Instructions

Knit Flat with Straight Needles

  • Row 1 (WS): K1, P8, K4, P8, K1
  • Row 2 (RS): P1, K2, C4B, K2, P4, K2, C4B, K2, P1 (cable row)
  • Row 3 (WS): K1, P8, K4, P8, K1
  • Row 4 (RS): P1, C4B, K2, C4F, P2, C4B, K4, P1 (cable row)
  • Row 5 (WS): K1, P8, K2, P10, K1
  • Row 6 (RS): P1, K8, T4F, K8, P1 (cable row)
  • Row 7 (WS): K1, P10, K2, P8, K1
  • Row 8 (RS): P1, K4, C4B, P2, C4F, K2, C4B, P1 (cable row)
  • Repeat rows 1 – 8 until desired length

Abbreviations

  • * – * – repeat between * to end of round
  • BO – bind-off in pattern
  • CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
  • C4B – cable 4 back – right cable - slip 2 stitches to a cable needle and hold it in the back of your work, knit the next 2 stitches off your left hand needle and then knit the 2 stitches off the cable needle
  • C4F – cable 4 front – left cable - slip 2 stitches to a cable needle and hold it in the front of your work, knit the next 2 stitches off your left hand needle and then knit the 2 stitches off the cable needle
  • K – knit stitches (K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
  • K1TBL – knit 1 stitch through the back loop
  • P – purl stitches (P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
  • RS – right side of work
  • S1PW – slip one stitch purl-wise
  • STS – stitches
  • T4F – twist 4 front – slip 2 STS onto cable needle and hold it in the front of your work, purl the next 2 stitches off your left hand needle and then knit the 2 STS off your cable needle
  • WS – wrong side of work
  • WYIF – with yarn in front
