Brioche Cable Stitch Swatch Instructions

Learn how to knit the Brioche Cable Knitting Stitch, a lovely combination of the brioche stitch and the cable knit stitch, it's reversible.

Equipment

  • Knitting Needles (Recommended Size for Yarn)
  • Cable Needle
  • Darning Needle
  • Scissors

Materials

  • Any Yarn

Instructions

Knit flat using straight needles:

  • CO 16 STS
  • Row 0 (set-up row) (WS): K4 *YOS, K1* K4
  • Rows 1-17: K4 *YOS, BK2TOG* K4
  • Row 18 (RS): K4, hold your right needle and yarn in the back, Slip 4 STS and 2 YOs onto your cable needle, hang the cable needle in the front of your work. Next, knit YOS, BK2TOG, YOS, BK2TOG for the next 4 STS off your WORKING needles, then knit YOS, BK2TOG, YOS, BK2TOG for the next 4 STS off your cable needle and then knit the last 4 STS.
  • Repeat rows 1-18 until desired length.

Abbreviations:

  • *– * – repeat between *asterisks* to the end of the round
  • CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
  • K – knit stitches (example: K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
  • BK2TOG - brioche knit 2 together - knit the next stitch off the left needle with its paired yarn-over
  • YOS - yarn over slip - bring yarn forward, slip 1 purl-wise, bring yarn over right needle
  • BRK - brioche knit stitch
  • RS - right side
  • WS - wrong side
