The Large Circle Cable Stitch is a 12 row repeat, consisting of 4 stockinette stitch cables. On one row there’s a set of cables back-to-back, one right leaning cable and one left leaning cable, which creates the opening of the medallion. The second row has another set of cables back-to-back, one left leaning cable and one right leaning, which closes the medallion.

Instructions

Knit flat using straight needles:

  • CO 14 STS
  • Row 1 (WS): K1, P12, K1
  • Row 2 (RS): P1, K12, P1
  • Row 3 (WS): K1, P12, K1
  • Row 4 (RS): P1, C6B, C6F, P1
  • Row 5 (WS): K1, P12, K1
  • Row 6 (RS): P1, K12, P1
  • Row 7 (WS): K1, P12, K1
  • Row 8 (RS): P1, K12, P1
  • Row 9 (WS): K1, P12, K1
  • Row 10 (RS): P1, C6F, C6B, P1
  • Row 11 (WS): K1, P12, K1
  • Row 12 (RS): P1, K12, P1
  • Repeat rows 1 – 12 until desired length.

Abbreviations : Knitting Techniques

  • * – * – repeat between *asterisks* to the end of the round
  • BO – bind-off in pattern
  • CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
  • C6B – cable 6 back – 3 stitches to a cable needle and hold it in the back of your work, knit the next 3 stitches off your left hand needle and then knit the 3 stitches off the cable needle
  • C6F – cable 6 front – 3 stitches to a cable needle and hold it in the front of your work, knit the next 3 stitches off your left hand needle and then knit the 3 stitches off the cable needle
  • K – knit stitches (K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
  • K1TBL – knit 1 stitch through the back loop
  • P – purl stitches (P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
  • RS – right side of work
  • S1PW – slip one stitch purl-wise
  • STS – stitches
  • WS – wrong side of work
  • WYIF – with yarn in front
