Knit Flat:

  • CO 18 stitches
  • Row 1: P2 *K2, P4* K2, P2
  • Row 2: K2 *P2, K4* P2, K2
  • Row 3: P1 *CR, CL, P2* CR, CL, P1
  • Row 4: K1, P1 *K2, P1* K1
  • Row 5: *CR, P2, CL*
  • Row 6: P1 *K4, P2* K4, P1
  • Row 7: K1 *P4, K2* P4, K1
  • Row 8: P1 *K4, P2* K4, P1 (same as row 6)
  • Row 9: *CL, P2, CR*
  • Row 10: K1, P1 *K2, P1* K1 (same as row 4)
  • Row 11: P1 *CL, CR, P2* CL, CR, P1
  • Row 12: K2 *P2, K4* P2, K2 (same as row 2)
  • Repeat rows 1-12, until desired length

Knit in the Round

  • CO in multiples of 6 (24, 30, 36, etc.)
  • Row 1: P2 *K2, P4* K2, P2

  • Row 3: P1 *CR, CL, P2* CR, CL, P1

Abbreviations

  • *– * – repeat between asterisks
  • CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
  • CL – Knit into the back of the second stitch, and then the back of the first stitch and then slip both off
  • CR – Knit into the front of the second stitch, and then the front of the first stitch and then slip both stitches off.
  • K – knit stitches (example: K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
  • P – purl stitches (example: P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
  • STS – stitches
