This mock cable rib stitch is a 4 row repeat, consisting of 1 increase twist stitch and 1 decrease stitch on the right side rows. The wrong side rows, back of your work, are simple and relaxing.

Materials

  • Any Yarn

Instructions

Knit flat using straight needles:

  • CO in multiples of 5 +4
  • Row 1 (RS): *P4, KFBF* P4 (increase 2 stitches per repeat)
  • Row 2 (WS): K4 *P3, K4*
  • Row 3 (RS): *P4, K3TOG* P4 (decrease 2 stitches per repeat)
  • Row 4 (WS): K4 *P1, K4*
  • Repeat rows 1-4, until desired length.

Knitting Techniques + Abbreviations

  • *– * – repeat between *asterisks* to the end of the round
  • CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
  • K – knit stitches (example: K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
  • KFBF – knit into the front, back and then the front again of the same stitch
  • K3TOG – knit 3 stitches together
  • P – purl stitches (example: P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
  • RS - right side of work
  • WS - wrong side of work
