This is a quick & easy baby hat knitting pattern using up some of your left-over super bulky yarn & it gives you a reason to buy another fur pom. {Like you really need a reason! ;)}

Pattern, Knit In The Round, Magic Loop Method:

  • CO 24 STS, split 12 STS on each needle, PM, join in the round.

  • Round 2: *K2, INC1, P1* {increase 8 STS = 32}
  • Round 3: *K3, INC1, P1* {increase 8 STS = 40}
  • Rounds 4-16: *K4, P1* {except rounds 9 & 14}

Pattern, Knit in the Round, Magic Loop Method:

  • You can knit this in the round with a 16” cable if you have short tips, 3 1/2” {9cm}

Abbreviations:

  • * – * – repeat between * to end of round
  • BO – bind-off in pattern
  • C4F – cable 4 front – Transfer 2 stitches to a cable needle and hold it in the front of your work, knit the next 2 stitches and then knit 2 stitches off the cable needle
  • CO – cast-on using the long-tail cast-on method
  • INC1 – make 1 stitch, I use a backwards loop
  • K2TOG – knit 2 stitches together
  • K – knit stitches {K1 means to knit 1 stitch}
  • KITR – knit in the round
  • P – purl stitches {P2 means to purl 2 stitches}
  • PM – place marker
  • STS – stitches

    Thank you for the beautiful baby pattern! It’s just what I need to make right now. My granddaughter is 6 months and I was wondering how many extra stitches should I cast on for the next size up? Also, is that a baby size Pom Pom? If so, where did you buy it? Thank you so much.

      Hi Jane,

      That makes me so happy! I’m working on a couple of other sizes, I’ll have them ready on Friday! To get you going, you can CO 32 STS and skip round 1 and follow the rest of the pattern. As for the pom, I actually made this one out of a large piece of faux fur “fabric.” There’s a bunch on Amazon that are reasonably priced though. The piece of fabric I bought would probably make 100 or more, it was larger than I thought it would be. :) Happy knitting!!
