Welcome to Day 3 of the 21 Days of Lace Knit Stitches Series! Learn how to knit this beginner lace knit stitch in the video tutorial below. You’ll be learning the basics of lace knit stitches. You can use these 3 stitches in different combinations to create your own beautiful patterns!

Today’s stitch is a basic lace knit stitch. It has a decrease immediately followed by an increase, better known as a yarn over {YO}. We’ll be learning 2 types of decreases for this stitch, a left-leaning decrease and a right-leaning decrease.

Materials:

Size US 15 {10mm} Knitting Needles
Yarn: Lana Grande by Cascade Yarns

Video Tutorial:

Pattern, Knit Flat:

CO in multiples of 2 STS

Row 1 {RS}: *K2TOG, YO* {right-leaning decrease}
Row 2 {WS}: *P*
Row 3 {RS}: *YO, SKP* {left-leaning decrease}
Row 4 {WS}: *P* {same as row 2}
Repeat rows 1-4 until desired length.

Tip:

When knitting row 1, make sure you include the last YO.

When knitting row 4, make sure you don’t include a YO at the end of the row.

I think this stitch has lots of potential to be a super bulky scarf or a lacy shawl. It’s perfect for some summer knitting patterns!

Using the Beginner Lace Knit Stitch:

Because we’re alternating a right-leaning decrease on one row with a left-leaning decrease on another row our finished object will be square.

Plus, It lays nice and flat when you’re finished, so you don’t have to worry about curling.

Increase and decrease on the same row, so the stitch count is the same on all rows.
