CO in multiples of 8 stitches, plus 5

CO 21 STS
Row 1 & 3: K1 *YO, DD, YO, K5* YO, DD, YO, K1
Row 2, 4, 6, 8: *P*
Row 5: K1 *K3, YO, S1, K1, PSSO, K1, K2TOG, YO* K4
Row 7: K1 *YO, DD, YO, K1*
Repeat rows 1-8 until desired length
Abbreviations:
*– * – repeat between the asterisks
CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
K – knit stitches (example: K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
DD – double decrease, K2TOG TBL return stitch to left needle, pass the next stitch over it and then slip it to the right needle
K2TOG TBL – knit 2 stitches together through the back loops
P – purl stitches (example: P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
PSSO – pass slipped stitch over
S1 – slip one stitch
STS – stitches
YO – yarn over
