Diagonal Lace Knitting Stitch Pattern

Pin

Welcome to Day 4 of the 21 Days of Lace Knit Stitches Series! Learn how to knit this diagonal lace knit stitch in the video tutorial below. You only use 4 knit stitches to create this lovely diagonal lace stitch pattern!

We’re still working on the basic lace knit stitches. Today you’ll be learning how to decrease a stitch and then immediately increase a stitch to create a lacy diagonal. This stitch only uses a right-leaning decrease.

Materials:

Size US 13 {9mm} Knitting Needles

Yarn: Lana Grande by Cascade Yarns

Video Tutorial:

Pattern, Knit Flat:

CO in multiples of 6 STS

For my swatch I CO 24 STS

Row 1 {RS}: *K4, K2TOG, YO*
Row 2 {WS}: *P*
Row 3 {RS}: K3 *K2TOG, YO, K4* K2TOG, YO, K1
Row 4 {WS}: *P*
Row 5 {RS}: K2 *K2TOG, YO, K4* K2TOG, YO, K2
Row 6 {WS}: *P*
Row 7 {RS}: K1 *K2TOG, YO, K4* K2TOG, YO, K3
Row 8 {WS}: *P*
Row 9 {RS}: *K2TOG, YO, K4*
Row 10 {WS}: *P*
Row 11 {RS}: K5 *K2TOG, YO, K4* K1
Row 12 {WS}: *P*
Repeat rows 1-12 until desired length.

Modification Option:

You can swap the K2TOG & YO so the diagonal is above the YO instead of below

I think adding a simple border and CO more stitches and it would make a beautiful throw blanket!

Using the Diagonal Lace Knit Stitch:

Despite all the knit stitches on the front of the work, this lays nice and flat, so you don’t have to worry about curling.

Increase and decrease on the same row, so the stitch count is the same on all rows.

I’m very happy with the outcome and I’d probably skip blocking it. I think it looks great just the way it is, but that’s my personal preference, to each their own :)
