Pattern, Knit in the Round:

Using US 13 {9mm} circular needles with a 16” {40cm} cable.

CO 40 STS, PM, join in the round

Rounds 1-4: *K2, P2*

Note:

You can place a stitch marker after each repeat to keep track of your stitches.

Round 05: *P4, K1, P1, K4*

Round 06: *P3, K2, P2, K3*

Round 07: *P2, K2, P1, K1, P2, K2*

Round 08: *P1, K2, P2, K2, P2, K1*

Round 09: *K2, P3, K3, P2*

Round 10: *K1, P4, K4, P1*

Repeat rounds 5-10, 4 more times for a total of 5 chevrons

{measures approximately 8” {20cm} from the beginning}

Note {Optional}:

When the stitches get too tight switch to a longer cable and knit using the magic loop method.

Decrease for the crown:

Round 35: *K* if you used stitch markers remove them as you come to them

Round 36: *K6, K2TOG, PM* {- 5 STS 35 STS remaining}

Round 37: *K5, K2TOG, SM* {- 5 STS 30 STS remaining}

Round 38: *K4, K2TOG, SM* {- 5 STS 25 STS remaining}

Round 39: *K3, K2TOG, SM* {- 5 STS 20 STS remaining}

Round 40: *K2, K2TOG, SM* {- 5 STS 15 STS remaining}

Round 41: *K1, K2TOG, SM* {- 5 STS 10 STS remaining}

Round 42: *K2TOG, remove stitch marker* {- 5 STS 5 STS remaining}

End:

Without binding-off, cut the yarn leaving a 10” {25cm} tail, pull it through the remaining STS, push through the top hole to the inside and then weave in the ends.

Block:

To block this hat I use a saucer. Like a teacup and saucer. ;) I put it inside the hat, so the bottom “swirl” is in the center of the saucer and the saucer is bulging outward, spritz it with some water, pat dry with a clean towel and let it dry overnight.

K – knit stitches {K1 means to knit 1 stitch}
K2TOG – knit 2 stitches together
