Notes
Not reversible.
Knit bottom up.
Knit using the diagonal seed & rib stitch.
Knit in the round with a circular needle.
When knitting in the round you’re always knitting the right side of your work.
Knitting Abbreviations
*– * – repeat between * to end of round
CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
DPNs – double pointed needles
K – knit stitches (K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
P2TOG – purl 2 stitches together
P – purl stitches (P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
PM – place stitch marker
SM – slip stitch marker
STS – stitches

CO 44 STS, PM, join in the round.
Rounds 1-15: *K2, P2* (approx. 4 1/2”)
Round 16 *K* INC1 (now you should have 45 STS)
Round 17: *K4, P1*
Round 18: K3, P1, *K4, P1* K1
Round 19: K2, P1, *K4, P1* K2
Round 20: K1, P1, *K4, P1* K3
Round 21: *P1, K4*
Repeat rounds 17-21, 4 more times.
Note (Optional):
On round 41, add a stitch marker every 5 stitches.
When the stitches get too tight switch to a longer cable and knit using the magic loop method.
Decrease for the crown:
Round 42: *K3, P2TOG, PM* (36 remaining)
Round 43: K1, P2TOG *K2, P2TOG, SM* knit the last stitch, SM (27 remaining)
Round 44: P2TOG, P2TOG *K1, P2TOG, SM* knit the last stitch, SM (18 remaining)
Round 45: *P2TOG, SM* (9 remaining)
Round 46: *P* remove stitch markers as you come to them.
End:
Without binding-off, cut the yarn leaving a 10” (25cm) tail, pull it through the remaining STS, push through the top hole to the inside and then weave in the ends.
Block:
To block this hat I use a saucer. Like a teacup and saucer. ;) I put it inside the hat, so the bottom “swirl” is in the center of the saucer and the saucer is bulging outward, spritz it with some water, pat dry with a clean towel and let it dry overnight.
