Using Size 13 (9mm) needles with 16″ (40cm) circular cable, or DNPs
CO 40 STS, PM, join in the round
Round 1-4: *K2, P2*
Switch to size 15 (10mm) needles with 16″ (40cm) circular cable, or DNPs
Rounds 5-30: *K*, approx. 6 ½” (16cm)
Note (Optional):
When the stitches get too tight switch to DPNs or a longer cable and knit using the magic loop method.
Decrease for the crown:
Round 31: *K6, K2TOG, PM* (- 5 STS, 35 STS remaining)
Round 32: *K5, K2TOG, SM* (- 5 STS, 30 STS remaining)
Round 33: *K4, K2TOG, SM* (- 5 STS, 25 STS remaining)
Round 34: *K3, K2TOG, SM* (- 5 STS, 20 STS remaining)
Round 35: *K2, K2TOG, SM* (- 5 STS, 15 STS remaining)
Round 36: *K1, K2TOG, remove stitch marker* (- 5 STS, 10 STS remaining)
End:
Without binding-off, cut the yarn leaving a 10” (25cm) tail, pull it through the remaining STS, push through the top hole to the inside and then weave in the ends.
Block:
To block this hat I use a saucer. Like a teacup and saucer. ;) I put it inside the hat, so the bottom “swirl” is in the center of the saucer and the saucer is bulging outward, spritz it with some water, pat dry with a clean towel and let it dry overnight.
