Create extra warmth and coziness with this Basket Cable Knitting Stitch! This cable stitch creates a squishy woven fabric, perfect for snuggling up in.

About the Stitch
The basket cable stitch is a 12 row repeat, consisting of 2 simple cable rows creating a squishy textured, woven fabric.
At first glance, this may not look like an easy knit, but it is, I promise. Just watch the video, so you can see it all come together! If you’re afraid to try cables, rest assured that you’re in good company. It took me a year to get the courage to try one. Once I spent the whole 15 minutes to try to learn one, I was hooked. Cables are not nearly as scary as they look. Don’t let them fool you!
The basket cable stitch is a sea of stockinette stitch with 2 rows of alternating cables that creates a lovely fabric with a gorgeous stitch texture of woven cables.
This is not a reversible pattern, meaning that the front and back are not the same.
There aren’t any increases or decreases, so you should always have the same number of stitches on the needles.

Yarn Weight: Super Bulky
Yardage: 35-45 yards (32 – 41 meters)
Suggested Yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick
Needle Size: US 11 (8mm) Knitting Needles

Darning Needle / Tapestry Needle / Yarn Needle

Note: I like using circular needles for a small swatch, it’s easier on my hands than full length straight needles.
Yarn Substitutions
You can use any category of yarn you’d like. To get the right gauge, start with the recommended needle size. If you’re stitches are too loose, use smaller needles and if you’re stitches are too tight use larger needles.
This cable stitch looks great with bulky yarns. The chunky yarn used for my swatch gives this stitch a lot of extra squish!
