Pattern, Knit in the Round:
Using US 11 {8mm} circular needles with a 16” {40cm} cable.
CO 48 STS, PM, join in the round.
Brim:
Rounds 1-4: *K1, P1*
Round 5: *[K1, P1 4 times] INC1* {increase 6 STS}
Body:
Rounds 6-8: *[K2, P2 twice] K1 [P2, K2 twice] P1*

Rounds 15-17: *K1, P2, K2, P2, K3 [P2, K2 twice]*
Repeat rounds 6-17 one more time.
Modification Option:
For a slouchy hat knit rows 6-17 one more time.
Note {Optional}:
When the stitches get too tight switch to DPNs or a longer cable and knit using the magic loop method.
Decrease for the crown:
Round 1: *K7, K2TOG, PM*
Round 2: *K6, K2TOG, SM*
Round 3: *K5, K2TOG, SM*
Round 4: *K4, K2TOG, SM*
Round 5: *K3, K2TOG, SM*
Round 6: *K2, K2TOG, SM*
Round 7: *K1, K2TOG, SM*
Round 8: *K2TOG, remove stitch marker*
End:
Without binding-off, cut the yarn leaving a 10” {25cm} tail, pull it through the remaining STS, push through the top hole to the inside and then weave in the ends.
Block:
To block this hat I use a saucer. Like a teacup and saucer. ;) I put it inside the hat, so the bottom “swirl” is in the center of the saucer and the saucer is bulging outward, spritz it with some water, pat dry with a clean towel and let it dry overnight.
