Pattern Instructions

Holding 2 strands of yarn, CO 40 (48, 56, 64) STS, PM, join to work in the round, being careful not to twist.

Knit all rounds until it measures 9 (11 1/2, 14, 15)” / 23 (29, 36, 38)cm, or desired length.

Decrease for the Crown:

Note: Use the 16″ cable for the body section and then switch to the longer cable or DPN’s to knit in the magic loop method when decreasing for the crown.

Next round, place a stitch marker every 8 STS

Round 1: *K6, K2TOG*

Round 2: *K5, K2TOG*

Round 3: *K4, K2TOG*

Round 4: *K3, K2TOG*

Round 5: *K2, K2TOG*

Round 6: *K1, K2TOG*

Round 7: *K2TOG*

Without binding-off, cut the yarn leaving a 10” (25cm) tail, pull it through the remaining STS, push through the top hole to the inside and then weave in the end.

Brim:
After completing the crown, turn the hat inside out. Fold the cast-on edge up toward the inside of the hat until the folded edge sits 2 (2.5, 3.5, 3.5)” / 5 (6, 9, 9)cm from the bottom opening. Pin in place, if desired. Using a darning needle and a length of yarn, whipstitch the cast-on edge to the inside of the hat. Turn right side out. The brim will fold naturally at the seam.

Weave in the ends.

Steam-block lightly to relax and even out the stitches for a relaxed slouch.
