Day 2 : Garter Ridge Lace Knit Stitch : #21daysoflaceknitstitches

Swatch of Garter Ridge Lace Knit Stitch
Welcome to Day 2 of the 21 Days of Lace Knit Stitches Series! Learn how to knit this easy lace knit stitch in the video tutorial below. One of the great things about this stitch is that you only need to know 3 knitting abbreviations to create it!
Today’s stitch is a simple ridge stitch on a garter stitch background. It’s made with the garter stitch, and if you’ve ever knit a garter stitch you know it’s going to be super squishy! Plus, it’s easy to memorize, making it a great travel project too!

Materials:

  • Size US 13 {9mm} Knitting Needles
  • Yarn: Lana Grande by Cascade Yarns

Video Tutorial:

Pattern, Knit Flat:

  • CO in multiples of 2 STS
  • For my swatch I CO 12 STS
  • Row 1 {RS}: *K*
  • Row 2 {WS}: *K*
  • Row 3 {RS}: *K*
  • Row 4 {WS}: *K*
  • Row 5 {RS}: *K*
  • Row 6 {WS}: *P2TOG, YO*
  • Repeat rows 1-6 until desired length.

Tip:

Watch & learn the Staggering Eyelet Knit Stitch on a stockinette background.

Using the Ridge Garter Lace Knit Stitch:

This isn’t a reversible stitch, but it looks nice on both sides.
Increase and decrease on the same row, so the stitch count is the same on all rows.
It lays nice and flat when you’re finished, so you don’t have to worry about curling.
I used some cotton yarn and added a couple of garter stitches to each side to make the scrubbie below:

small knitted dishcloth with soap, scissors and knitting needles

Pattern for the Scrubbie:

I used Simply Cotton Organic Worsted Yarn by Knit Picks {Lily Sugar’n Cream, is similar in thickness}

  • Size 6 needles
  • CO 18 STS
  • Row 1 {RS}: *K*
  • Row 2 {WS}: *K*
  • Row 3 {RS}: *K*
  • Row 4 {WS}: *K*
  • Row 5 {RS}: *K*
  • Row 6 {WS}: K2 *P2TOG, YO* K2

  • Repeat rows 1-6 4 times
  • Repeat rows 1-4 and then BO in all purl STS

Advanced Pattern, Knit Flat with a Clean Edge:

  • Row 1 {RS}: WYIF S1PW *K* WYIF S1PW
  • Row 2 {WS}: K1TBL *K* K1TBL
  • Row 3 {RS}: WYIF S1PW *K* WYIF S1PW
  • Row 4 {WS}: K1TBL *K* K1TBL
  • Row 5 {RS}: WYIF S1PW *K* WYIF S1PW
  • Row 6 {WS}: K1TBL *P2TOG, YO* K1TBL
