About the Stitch

The Braided Cable Stitch is an 8 row repeat, consisting of 2 simple cables which are only used on 2 of the 8 rows.

This is a simple 8-row repeat and all of the right side rows have cable stitches.

This braided cable looks similar to a basket weave stitch consisting of 2 cable stitches and a on a sea of stockinette stitches creating a lovely fabric with the gorgeous texture of woven cable stitches.

It’s an 8-row repeat, but only 2 rows have cable stitches. For the rest of the rows, you’ll be creating that beautiful stockinette texture.

This is not a reversible pattern, meaning that the front and back are not the same.

There aren’t any increases or decreases, so you should always have the same number of stitches on the needles.

Yarn, Needles & Notions

Yarn Weight: Super Bulky
Yardage: 35-45 yards (32 – 41 meters)
Suggested Yarn: Lion Brand Wool Ease Thick & Quick
Needle Size: US 11 (8mm) Knitting Needles
Cable Needle
Darning Needle / Tapestry Needle / Yarn Needle
Scissors

Note: I like using circular needles for a small swatch, it’s easier on my hands than full length straight needles.

Yarn Substitutions

You can use any weight yarn you’d like. To get the right gauge, start with the recommended needle size. If you’re stitches are too loose, use smaller needles and if you’re stitches are too tight use larger needles.
