Pattern, Knit in the Round:

CO 48 STS, PM, join in the round.

Round 1: *K1, P1*

Round 2: *K1, K1BLW*

Round 3: *P1, PULY+P1*

Round 4: *K1BLW, K1*

Round 5: *PULY+P1, P1*

Repeat Rounds 2-5, 16 times, or until desired height.

End on a round 4 and BO on a round 5.

BO by picking-up the extra stitch below, put it on the left-hand needle, knit the next 2 STS together and then purl the next stitch, repeat.

Note: I ended up with a “seam” where the stitch marker was when I transitioned to the next Round. I tried to tighten the stitch, but it didn’t work as well as I’d hoped. You can sew it up to bring it together better. However, once you have it on, it’s hardly noticeable.

Weave in the ends.

Block, if desired.

* – * – repeat between *
BO – bind-off in pattern
CO – cast-on {long-tail cast-on method}
K – knit stitches {K1 means to knit 1 stitch}
K1BLW – insert right needle, as if to knit, into the stitch below and then knit.
P – purl stitches {P2 means to purl 2 stitches}
PM – place marker
PULY+K1 – pick up the long yarn created by the K1BLW, slip the knit stitch as if to knit onto the right needle, put both stitches back onto the left needle and then knit both together
STS – stitches
