Simple Seed Stitch Knitting Patterns
The seed stitch knitting pattern creates little bumps that give you a beautiful texture! It’s a classic stitch that every beginner should know. I’ve put together some simple seed stitch knitting patterns for you to try below.
Instructions on How to Knit the Basic Seed Stitch:
Cast-on in an ODD number of stitches
Row 1: *K1, P1* K1
Repeat row 1 until desired length.
Cast-on in an EVEN number of stitches
Row 1: *K1, P1*
Row 2: *P1, K1*
Repeat rows 1-2 until desired length.
Whether you have an even number of stitches, or and odd number of stitches you’ll knit into the purl stitch and purl into the knit stitch. It’s a super simple pattern to follow!
The seed stitch is reversible, so the front and back look the same.
A common problem when knitting the seed stitch is using knitting needles that are too small, which creates a tight fabric that’s dense, stiff and itchy. To avoid this problem, use a larger enough knitting needle to create a slightly loose stitch, so your fabric has a lovely drape!
Things I love about the seed stitch:
It’s a classic stitch that never goes out of style.
The stitches are dense, so it’s warm & cozy.
This stitch doesn’t curl and has a beautiful drape.
