Pattern Instructions

Start by knitting in the round using the magic loop method.

CO 4 STS, place a stitch marker in between each stitch, with a unique stitch marker for the beginning of your round, split 2 STS per needle. (or you can use DPN’s.)

Round 1: *K1, SM* (repeat 4 times)

Round 2: *INC1, K1, INC1, SM, K1, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)
Round 3: *K3, SM, INC1, K1, INC1, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)

Round 4: *INC1, K3, INC1, SM, K3, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)
Round 5: *K5, SM, INC1, K3, INC1, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)

Round 6: *INC1, K5, INC1, SM, K5, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)
Round 7: *K7, SM, INC1, K5, INC1, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)

Round 8: *INC1, K7, INC1, SM, K7, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)
Round 9: *K9, SM, INC1, K7, INC1, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)

Round 10: *INC1, K9, INC1, SM, K9, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)
Round 11: *K11, SM, INC1, K7, INC1, SM* (repeat one more time for the other side)

I think you have the hang of it now, so you’ll want to repeat rounds 10 & 11 until you’ve reached your desired size.

Knit all the STS in the round before you start your border, leaving the 4 stitch markers in place.

Border:
Round 1: [P1K1, *P1, K1* P1, KFB | SM | KFB, *K1, P1* K1, P1K1] repeat 1 more time
Round 2: *P1, K1* (slip markers as you come to them)
Round 3: [KFB, *K1, P1* K1, P1K1 | SM | P1K1, *P1, K1* P1, KFB] repeat 1 more time
Round 4: *K1, P1* (slip markers as you come to them)
Round 5: [P1K1, *P1, K1* P1, KFB | SM | KFB, *K1, P1* K1, P1K1] repeat 1 more time
Round 6: *P1, K1* (slip markers as you come to them)

BO:
[*KFB, put both STS on right needle slipping the first stitch over the second, BO knitting the knit STS and purling the purl STS (this will give you a stretchy edge) your last stitch before your stitch marker, KFB, put both STS on right needle slipping the first stitch over the second, BO last ST, remove stitch marker*] repeat 4 times

Weave in the ends.

You can block it if you want to. I blocked mine, several times, and the center never laid completely flat. :(
