12 STS & 17 rounds per 3” (8cm) square, knit in stockinette stitch & knit in the round using the magic loop method.

US 8.5 women’s shoe size.

Notes

Not reversible.
Knit using the rib & stockinette stitch.
Knit in the round with a circular needle, in the magic loop method.
When knitting in the round you’re always knitting the right side of your work.
You’re going to start at the ankle of the sock, working towards the heel and then the toes.

Knitting Abbreviations

*– * – repeat between * to end of round
BO – bind-off in pattern
CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
INC1 – make 1 stitch (I use a backwards loop)
K – knit stitches (K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
K2TOG – knit 2 stitches together
P – purl stitches (P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
PM – place marker
STS – stitches

Pattern Instructions

Knit in the Round, Magic Loop Method:

CO 28 STS, PM, split 14 STS on each needle, join in the round.

Rounds 1-4: *K1, P1*

Rounds 5-17: *K* (about 3 1/4” (8cm))

Decrease stitches to create the hole for your heel:
Round 18: BO 14 STS, knit the remainder of row.

Increases stitches to close the hole for your heel:
Round 19: INC1 x 14 STS, knit the remainder of row. Split 14 STS on each needle, place marker, join in the round.

Note: You want the same number of STS you started with.

Rounds 20-34: *K* (about 3 1/4” (8cm))

Rounds 35-37: *K1, P1*

Round 38: BO loosely in the K1, P1 pattern.

Knit the second the same as the first.

No blocking required.

Weave in the ends.

Size Alterations:
To make it larger or smaller CO in increments of 2.
