This chunky knit blanket is knit with jumbo sized knitting needles! These oversized stitches make for a super thick & super cozy handknit blanket.
It’s a beginner pattern using only knit & purl stitches. It’s easy to memorize using a 2 row repeat that naturally lays flat and has a beautiful texture.

Needles & Notions
Needle Size: US 19 (15mm) Knitting Needles with a 40″ (100cm) Cable
You might be able to use a 32″ (80cm) cable. I used a 40″ (100cm) cable for the throw size and had plenty of room to do a square.

9 STS & 14 rows per 4″ (10cm) square, knit in the pattern below

A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of CO stitches

Knitting Abbreviations
*– * – repeat between * to end of round
BO – bind-off in pattern
CO – cast-on (long-tail cast-on method)
K – knit stitches (K1 means to knit 1 stitch)
P – purl stitches (P2 means to purl 2 stitches)
RS – right side
STS – stitches
WS – wrong side

Pattern Instructions
Knit holding 2 strands of yarn together throughout.
CO desired # of STS, see Sizes section above.
Row 1 (WS): *K1, P1* K1
Row 2 (RS): *K*
Repeat rows 1 & 2 until desired length.
The last row you knit should be a Row 2 and then BO in the K1, P1 pattern, this will make the bind-off edge stretchier.
Weave in the ends.
Block, if desired.
