Materials:

  • Yarn Weight: Bulky
  • Yardage: 50 – 60 yards {46 – 55 meters}
  • Suggested Yarn: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes
  • {I don’t think this is a true bulky weight, maybe more of a heavy worsted weight yarn.}
  • Needle Size: US 9 {5.5mm} Knitting Needles with a 24″ {60cm} Cable
  • Extras: Stitch Markers

Notes:

  • You’re going to start at the ankle of the sock, working towards the heel and then the toes.

Pattern:

  • CO 28 STS, split 14 STS on each needle, place marker, join in the round.
  • {Be careful not to twist.}
  •  
  • Rounds 1-4: *K1, P1*
  • Rounds 5-17: *K* {about 2 1/4” {6cm}}
  • Round 18: BO 14 STS, knit the remainder of row.
  • Round 19: INC1 x 14 STS, knit the remainder of row. Split 14 STS on each needle, place marker, join in the round.

  • {This creates the hole for your heel. You want the same number of STS you started with.}
  •  
  • Rounds 20-34: *K* {about 2 1/2”}
  • Rounds 35-37: *K1, P1*
  • Round 38: BO loosely in the K1, P1 pattern.
  •  
  • Knit the second the same as the first.
  •  
  • No blocking required.

Abbreviations:

  • * – * – repeat pattern
  • BO – bind-off in pattern
  • CO – cast-on {long-tail cast-on method}
  • INC1 – make 1 stitch {I use a backwards loop}
  • K – knit stitches {K1 means to knit 1 stitch}
  • P – purl stitches {P2 means to purl 2 stitches}
  • RS – right side
  • STS – stitches
  • WS – wrong side
